Welcome to my site- I hope you're hungry! My name is Sonali- I'm a board certified Emergency Medicine physician, culinary school graduate, recipe developer and bona fide foodie. My passion for food started several years ago when I moved back to New York City to do my residency training. I found myself spending what little free time I had away from the hospital cooking and experimenting with new recipes. In 2007 I entered a recipe contest on a whim and ended up being selected from thousands of entrants to compete on a cooking competition (Ultimate Recipe Showdown) on the Food Network. Since then, I haven’t stopped cooking and have won or placed in several contests including the Sutter Home Build a Better Burger Contest, National Beef Cook-Off, and National Chicken Contest. In addition, my recipes have been published in magazines including Everyday with Rachel Ray, Better Homes & Gardens and Taste of Home.
In 2009, I decided to take my passion for cooking one step further by attending culinary school at the Institute of Culinary Education. Now my time is spent in two distinct ways- part of the week I’m a physician working in a busy trauma center in NYC, and the rest of the week I’m honing my culinary skills as a freelance recipe developer and blogger. I want to use my medical and culinary backgrounds to help you create meals that are nutritious and full of flavor. I also enjoy the occasional splurge- after all I am a foodie and believe that eating is one of life's greatest pleasures. So I believe in the philosophy of eating in moderation and maintaining an active lifestyle. I enjoy discussing the health benefits of foods and encourage people to know what they're eating so that they can make smart food choices all day long.
So please take a look around my site, leave comments and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from you! If you have any questions (food or health related), click on the "Ask the Doc" tab at the top of the screen. Thanks for stopping by- bon appetit!

WOW! I love what you're doing here...and that you find time to share it. You sound like a very busy lady. I am going to be sharing your blueberry banana flaxseed smoothie one of these days and will try to give you a 'heads up' so you can come over and see it. It's wonderfully delicious...I appreciate all the lovely info you share here...I'm your newest follower. =)
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely give me a heads up. Thanks so much for your support- it means a lot!
DeleteI love how your philosophy of health shines through your recipes/cooking! My Aunt works with you and sent me some recipes to try because she knows I'm a food loving health professional up here in Vancouver. Thank you for your recipes!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I appreciate your comments and am so glad that you like my recipes. By the way, who's your aunt?

ReplyDeleteI found you via Pinterest and was intrigued by your blogname! I'm an ER RN in Orange County and am working on my 5 yr plan of being an ER RN for 3 yrs and then applying for NP school and working for 10 yrs. Somewhere in the 10 yrs I want to go to culinary school too! When I'm not doing my straight shifts, I'm usually cooking/baking and testing my culinary creations (or amazing recipe finds) w/ fellow ER Docs and ER RN's. (My fiance says he and his coworkers are getting too soft! =P)
I look forward to following your posts Doc!
Thanks so much for the kind words- I really appreciate it! My husband is my official taste tester and his friends and coworkers always wonder why he's not bigger than he is! I wish you the best of luck with your future plans and congrats on pursuing your dreams!

DeleteI am a family physician. We have 6 cases of cancer in my immediate family within 6 years. I came from a family of doctors. There are 10 in the family. Recently, my neonatologist, 51 year old cousin died of Colonic Cancer Stage 4. Another GP cousin has parotid cancer. As a family physician, I want to explore the culinary world and do more preventive measures. Like you, I had attended culinary classes and graduated from it earlier this year. I am now taking my practicum in a 5 star hotel here in the Philippines. Its inspire me alot to read your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your family. I think it's a great mission that you're on. I'm also interested in the role of food in preventive medicine. Good luck with your studies- I wish you all the best!
DeleteI am with you, as well. Brother of Glio, Mother of Melanoma, Sister of Breast and Ovarian. Similar journies.
